CRTC new media hearings reveal old media thinking

With the CRTC new media hearings taking a break, law professor Michael Geist offers a somber assessment of the submissions so far.
In his column for the Toronto Star, Geist is critical of the debate so far:
The past two weeks have been a huge disappointment with submissions that were short on specifics, long on rhetoric and filled with inconsistencies.
He blames this partly on how the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission framed the hearing.
The broadcast regulator is trying to limit the hearings to what it calls “new media broadcasting”, shying away from issues of net neutrality and user-generated content.
