CRTC considers future of new media in Canada
The broadcast regulator, the CRTC, is holding hearings to review its policy of allowing broadcasting content to be unregulated on the Internet and mobile phones.
At issue is whether the CRTC should adopt new regulations to ensure Canadian content on the net and there are others who believe home-grown content already has a presence on the Internet without the encouragement of regulations.
The hearings are being streamed live on CPAC or follow the comments on Twitter.
And Globe and Mail technology reporter Matt Hartley and media reporter Grant Robertson are live blogging the hearings, which kicked off with CRTC chairman Konrad von Finckenstein asking if stakeholders in this environment contributing in an appropriate manner to Canadian content.
The hearings are being held on Tuesday and Wednesday, then resume for the week of February 23 and in the week of March 9.
