CBC news boss John Cruickshank quits

Breaking news from CBC, with the head of the news operation John Cruickshank resigning after just 15 months in the job.

From Inside the CBC blog:

John Cruickshank, the publisher of CBC News resigned today. Cruickshank had been at the corporation for only 15 months, he joined in September 2007. He is leaving for the post of publisher at The Toronto Star.

The news of his departure is a surprise and details are scarce. He is leaving at a time when the CBC faces a $45 million budget shortfall and it is reining in spending.

CBC described Cruickshank’s appointment in 2007 as “a coup for the CBC“, adding that “he has indicated that he is eager to join what he describes as ‘the most important news organization in the country’ and a position he considers “the culmination of a career.”
