Online ignored in Webster journalism awards

Peter MansbridgeOn Thursday, British Columbia celebrated the best of its journalism at the Jack Webster awards, with a keynote address by the CBC’s Peter Mansbridge.

It was  a good night for The Globe and Mail’s Gary Mason who picked up two awards, and for Global BC who also received two gongs.

The twelve awards cover a wide range of areas and reward journalists working in print and broadcast.

Conspicuous by its absence was online journalism.  As a judge for the Websters, I know that this is something the organisers are considering.

Given the number of Canadians who are getting their news from the web, especially among a younger generation, it is time for online journalism to be recognised at BC’s journalism awards.
